Our Environmental Impact

JPB Painting Contractors Ltd has been proudly providing a high quality painting service to its clients for more than 25 years. A company running for this length of time has the opportunity to monitor and improve its processes, and the effects these processes have on the surrounding environment.

Identifying Lead-based Paint

A major pollutant that painting companies come across when repainting is a pre-existing coat containing lead-based paint. To identify lead, it must be tested for – a step that most companies don’t bother with as it increases material costs to protect workers and requires strategic planning. Site-specific controls must then be used to manage the safety of not only the workers, but also the environment. Lead dust can pose significant hazards to people and the environment if not controlled properly. Depending on the topography of the site, JPB has multiple controls and systems for managing lead-based paint, right through to correct disposal. Depending on the age of your home or building and the scope of the work required, JPB will carry out a lead test to ensure the correct controls are put in place to manage the hazards of lead contaminants on staff and the environment.

Lead Removal Process

1. Before the preparation begins - if scaffolded, the structure will be wrapped in scrim wrap to help contain any contaminants.

2. Work areas are then covered with catchment sheets large enough to cover the ground below and help contain the lead paint contaminants. Flaking areas are generally removed with a linbide blade.

3. Sanders are connected to a vacuum hose which collect the harmful dusts and filters the dust through a high quality HEPA filter.

4. Contaminants are wrapped in catchments sheets which are then sealed in bags, labelled and disposed of at an approved facility.

Cleaning and Recycling

Our staff are also dedicated to doing their bit to minimise waste and pollutants. When possible, we clean and re-use brushes and roller sleeves instead of throwing them away.

All paint companies produce waste water, but most ends up polluting the environment when disposed of. At JPB, our waste water is run through a unique system which separates the paint solids from clean water, making it environmentally friendly to dispose of. All painting companies who care about the environment we live in should be using this system!
